So Glad I Sucked it Up and Went

I observed a class at work today, which is an easy gig. No prep, participate only when you want, and we had cookies near the end of session! (The chocolate chips were fresh out of the oven and the chips were still gooey!!)

At one point, the class discussed a person’s “I think” vs his “I feel” as in: I think I need to clean the garage, but I flat don’t feel like it! The theory is: In order to get someone to do something tough, you gotta get the “I feel” and “I think” on the same page. If not the “I feel” will win every time.

I took particular notice of this as I dealt with it this morning for the commute in… Continue reading “So Glad I Sucked it Up and Went”

Even better than a brand new bike!

Folks with all the finalizing of the repairs on the little free library, errands, sleeping in a bit and the Super Bowl, I was just not able to find time to get the bike out this weekend.  There are just sometimes real life gets in the way.  Since I had just gotten it out of the shop with a fresh tune up, I could feel it wanting to go, but it and I had to wait for today’s ride home from work… Continue reading “Even better than a brand new bike!”

Finally back on the bike!

I’m spoiled.  Yep I admit it.  I have wife that loves me and that I love.  More importantly. We like each other. We have a good time together, we take care of each other and we make each other laugh.  The worst part about having to be gone the last two weeks in Spokane is that we haven’t been able to spend time together and enjoy each other’s company.  In short it sucks!

So to remedy that, we spent most of every minute with each other this last weekend.  It was a great weekend of just hanging out.  We both needed it!

The other thing I needed was the wind in my face, that happened today… Continue reading “Finally back on the bike!”

Cycling Culture

I’ve been going through a bit of a blogging dry spell lately.  I think being busy with real life stuff, and therefore being off the bike more than I have in years, has resulted in a lot lest saddle time.  Now this may not seem like a big deal, but my best thinking time, be it for bloggage or work projects, comes when I am sitting and pedaling the bike!  Makes me wonder where exactly my brains really are….

However, yesterday, why taking the Mom-in-law in search of a new recliner, I discovered a new place that finally jarred my head in gear!  It made me realize, at least up here in Seattle, we have actively embraced the Cycling Culture! Continue reading “Cycling Culture”

Racking up the miles: April 2014

I don’t know what it is like where you are, but around here the weather has been screwy.  Earlier in the month we had serious wetness.  Where it would start to rain and then finally slow down in the afternoon.  We had a freak storm hit a park I used to cycle in, Point Defiance, and knock over a few 100 year old trees.  And yes, even a very rare tornado (just a tiny one) hit near a small town.

Then, out of nowhere, yesterday hit, and I rode home in 86 degree weather!  Today will be the same.  I admit, I am a wimp when it comes to heat, so I am looking forward to the mid 60s planned for the weekend.  Overall, though, its been an eventful month…

Racking Up the Miles: February 2014

One of the things I have learned over this past year of “Racking Up” posts is that each month is its own month.  And the miles you ride may or may NOT have anything to do with the month before.  Schedules, weather, work and many other things can affect how often you get on the bike.

Dirtbags suck!

Ok people are really starting to annoy me.  No not the people who read this blog.  Nor the people I work with (it’s been quiet at work lately).  It’s not even relatives (ok maybe the aunt who is a Bronco fan is a bit annoying.

No these are those degenerates out there who have a special place in hell waiting for them:  Bike thieves.   Now let me stop anyone from worrying!  My bike is perfectly safe!  But as you can see here, even though we have a secure indoor bike location, I still lock it up.

Today though, I was had a chance to talk with one of my fellow cyclist who told me something I didn’t know. Continue reading “Dirtbags suck!”
